Portsmouth, NH – CMCC Women's Basketball bounced back from its first loss of the season on Wednesday by scoring 127 points against Great Bay on Thursday, a program record for most points in a single game. Head coach Andrew Morong rested all five starters from the UMA game the night before, but seven different players still finished in double figures, as the Mustangs connected on 22 three-pointers to set another single-game record.
Central Maine took a 31-5 lead after the first quarter and led 61-9 at the halftime break. Three-point shots were falling early, and 11 different players were mixed into the action against the Yankee Small College Conference opponent Herons.
Autumn Peterson hit the last basket of the night, knocking down a wide-open three in the final seconds for a 127-30 final. That shot set the new program record for points in a single game, breaking the previous mark of 125 set just last month at home against the Word of Life Bible Institute.
Caitlyn McCoy scored a game-high 19 points and went 5-for-10 from beyond the arc. Mikela Alvarado (18), Gabbie Tibbetts (17), Julie Darres (14), Kennedy Lampert (14), Anais Balla Zambo (13), and Zoe Bedford (12) also finished in double digit scoring. Bedford and Alvarado each hit four three-pointers while Tibbetts and Peterson had three apiece. Jayce Mendez scored a team-high 13 points for Great Bay in the loss.
Overall, CMCC shots 51.0% from the field and went 22-for-42 from three-point land. The Mustangs outrebounded the Herons 65-15, forced 23 turnovers and dealt out 39 assists. Central Maine now stands at 21-1 overall and 12-1 in YSCC play with one conference game remaining.
