Mustangs dominate third quarter in rout of WCCC

Calais, ME — CMCC Women's Basketball improved to 4-0 on the season with a commanding 72-31 road win over Washington County Community College this afternoon.

Despite a slower-paced first half, the Mustangs erupted in the third quarter, outscoring the Golden Eagles 30-7 to put the game out of reach. The defensive effort was stifling, holding WCCC to just 14 second-half points while showcasing CMCC's depth and intensity.

Sophomore forward Cassie Ririnui (Tauranga, New Zealand) led all scorers with 16 points and added 11 rebounds to secure a double-double. Josie Friend (Melbourne, Australia) followed with 13 points, 9 boards, and 3 steals. Kennedy Lampert (Bowdoin, ME) contributed 11 points and a team-high 5 assists in a balanced attack.

CMCC's depth was again a difference-maker, pushing the pace and forcing turnovers. Caitlyn McCoy (Turner, ME) hit for 6 points while Mikela Alvarado (Arvada, CO) and Anaïs Balla Zambo (Friborg, Switzerland) chipped in 5 points each off the bench. Abilene Corson (Dexter, ME) provided a spark with 4 points, 4 assists, and 4 rebounds and Stella Laubenstein (Austin, TX) added 3 assists and 3 steals in just 18 minutes of play.

"Our intensity coming out of halftime set the tone," said head coach Andrew Morong. "We made adjustments, picked up the pace, and executed really well on both ends. It's great to see the entire roster contributing."

CMCC will return to action this Tuesday, hosting Great Bay Community College at Kirk Hall Gymnasium. Tip-off is set for 6:00 PM.
