Fort Kent, ME - The CMCC women's basketball team returned to action in dominant fashion over the weekend, earning back-to-back wins on the road against nationally ranked USCAA Division I opponent University of Maine at Fort Kent. In their first games since December 12, the Mustangs defeated the Bengals 80–61 on Friday night and followed up with a convincing 75–49 win on Saturday morning.
In Friday's matchup, CMCC set the tone early with a blistering 27–6 first quarter. Ava Smith led the way with a standout performance, scoring 23 points on 11-of-13 shooting from the field while adding seven rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Breanna Dwyer contributed across the board with 12 points, five assists, and four steals. Anais Balla Zambo also chipped in with 12 points and five rebounds. The Mustangs shared the ball well, finishing with 27 assists as a team. Guard Stella Laubenstein returned to the lineup after an eight-week absence and made an immediate impact by dishing out six assists off the bench.
The Mustangs' momentum carried into Saturday morning, where they delivered another strong all-around effort. Breanna Dwyer turned in a stellar performance with 21 points on 10-of-14 shooting, along with six rebounds, six steals, and four assists. Keilani Horne added 11 points, seven rebounds, and three steals, while Hunter Hartsgrove scored 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Defensively, CMCC was locked in, forcing 32 turnovers and controlling the tempo throughout.
With the weekend sweep, the Mustangs improve their record to 13-0. They will be back in action next week for a three-game road trip through New York and Vermont. CMCC will face Word of Life on Tuesday, Albany College of Pharmacy on Wednesday, and Vermont Randolph on Thursday. The three game in three days, all on the road, will force the Mustangs to put their full depth on display.
