Esports Wraps Up Spring Season at SSBU LAN

Waterville, ME – The Mustangs Esports program ended its spring 2025 semester with its final event of the season on Saturday, a Super Smash Bros Ultimate LAN tournament hosted by Thomas College as part of the Maine Esports Collegiate Association. CMCC was represented by three gamers in the 19-player double elimination bracket that also featured UMaine, Husson, UNE, and USM, along with the host Terriers.

All three Mustangs ended up on the same side of the bracket. Jacob "Mr. Fun and Games" Knight was the #3 seeded player in the tournament, giving him a bye in the first round. Jacob defeated "JacksontheSnack" from the Nor'easters program in round two before taking a quarterfinal matchup against "Mudikyu" from Husson.

The Eagles' gamer was well-known to the Central Maine squad after several matches using Isabelle against them in the regular season. That put him up against the #2 seeded player, "sopps" from UMaine. He gave Jacob his first loss of the day in winners semifinals and went on to win the whole tournament.

Jayden "aither" Feliberty was seeded #7 and beat "m4sk" from UMaine in the first round using his main Terry, 2-1. Jayden's progress in the winner's bracket was also stopped by "sopps" while Richard "OneStock" Johnson was defeated by "Mudikyu" in the first round.

R.J. took a 2-1 win against Husson's "potato" to keep his tournament alive but was eliminated from the competition in the loser's bracket round two by "JacksontheSnack" from UNE. Jayden was eliminated by UMaine's "Ramiel" with a 2-0 loss to put him tied for 9th place on the day.

Jacob's day ended meanwhile in top 6 after a last game, last stock loss to UNE's "kel" (who would go on to finish third) in the best-of-five series. Those were the only two to place in the top 8 who weren't from UMaine, with the Black Bears taking the other six spots.

"Overall, it was a good spring semester for the program," said Esports Coordinator Andrew Garza. "We picked up two trophies this semester (Valorant 3rd at Husson LAN and Call of Duty runner-up for ECAC national championship) to go along with the Valorant championship from the fall."

Mustangs Esports expects to return 90% of its roster for the fall semester.
