Central Maine defeated UMFK 72-67 in overtime tonight. CM forced 30 turnovers with constant full court pressure. Despite being down by 10 at the half, CM roared back and kept up the constant pressure to wear down the travel weary Bengals. The strategy worked as the Mustangs took their first lead of the game with 2:30 minutes on the clock. With 2.5 seconds left in regulation, and CM down by 2 points, Brandon Giguere received a beautiful dish from Samson Olayemi under the hoop and got fouled. He calmly set up at the free throw line and iced two shots. CM came out firing in the overtime and outscored the Bengals 8-3. Samson Oleyami hit for 4 of those points in the OT to secure the win for the Mustangs. Adam Bouchard led UMFK with 17 points and 7 rebounds. Yuri Belizaire chipped in with 10 points. Samson Oleyami had a huge game for CM knocking down 24 points and recorded 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Justin Cocroft hit for 13 points and hauled down 7 critical rebounds. Cody Hadley, Ismail Rios, and Marcellus Gail all hit key shots down the stretch.
With the win CM improves to 4-3 on the season. They will be back in action on Friday, whent hey travel to Maine Maritime Academy for an exhibition game.
