Auburn, ME - It was a beautiful Friday night in Auburn with a decent crowd and the Men's Hockey team celebrating their seniors Riley Lavoie, Clayton Hussey, Noah Buiniskas and Austin White. However, after all the festivities it was time to get back to business and win a hockey game against Springfield College!
The first period was strong by both teams, and it created some great hockey plays all around. Late in the first period the Mustangs would strike first on a beautiful offensive face-off leaving Matt Poirier all alone in front to tap it in. The Mustangs would create lots of chances in the second period but would be unable to convert at first! However, once Gabe Poirier found the 2nd goal the Mustangs would explode for number 3 and 4 by Cam Knowles and Cody Ivey. The Mustangs were able to shut Springfield College down in the third period and find 1 more goal to make the final score 5-0.
"Super proud of the guys, the way we played tonight is our identity. We stayed patient when missing opportunities, but we believed in our system and game plan and converted for 5 goals while keeping the 0 on our side," said Coach Knoren.
The Mustangs will travel to Springfield on Saturday night before having a week of practice to get ready for NECHA playoffs next weekend!
