Cross Country Men Place 4th, Fleurent Gets 2nd Overall

Concord, NH – The CMCC Cross Country team completed its season with a good showing at the YSCC Championships on Saturday, battling ten schools at the conference meet. Both the men's and women's team had good results to finish the campaign on a high.

Leading the way on the women's side, freshman Eva Fleurent ran an outstanding race, finishing 2nd overall with a time of 28:20, and earning All-Conference honors for her performance. Fleurent's finish marks one of the highest championship placements in CMCC women's cross country history and caps off a phenomenal debut season for the first-year out of Biddeford, ME.

Also scoring for the Mustangs women's team were Hailey Bowley, finishing in 20th place with a time of 34:13 and Abby Therriault who finished in 29th place with a time of 40:37.

Head coach Kevin Mitchell praised Fleurent's achievement and the team's exciting future. "Eva's performance was exceptional, finishing second in the YSCC and earning All-Conference recognition as a freshman is a huge accomplishment," Mitchell said. "Our women's team continues to build momentum, and with three of our four female runners returning next year, the future looks very bright for this group. And we appreciate Abby's hard work over her three years with the team."

On the men's side, the Mustangs team finished in fourth place overall; a strong team effort with their fastest pack time of the season.

Top finishers included Owen Heseltine, who just missed out on the top ten with a quick time of 33:09, good enough for 12th overall. Zachary Peirce wasn't far behind, finishing in 15th place with a time of 33:55, to place a pair of Mustangs in the conference's top-20 results.

Rounding out the scoring with strong finishes for CMCC were Robert Spears in 31st place with a time of 39:31, Hugo Lopes in 37th place (41:43), Henry Avery in 41st place (45:09), Carlos Fra-Nero in 43rd place (46:13) and Brandon Powell in 45th (59:34).

"Our men battled through a great course with lots of strong competition to place fourth overall," said Mitchell after the race. "Having two runners in the top 20 speaks to the progress of this group and the effort they've put in all season."

The YSCC Championships mark the end of the cross country team's fall campaign, with the squad working hard throughout the season and building on results each week since their start in September. With leadership from returning athletes and exciting new talent, the Mustangs look to return next year to challenge for the conference crown.
