Fleurent, Heseltine Lead Cross County at NAC Preview

Bangor, ME – CMCC Cross Country had its best showing of the season at the North Atlantic Conference Preview meet hosted by Husson University at SAXL Park in Bangor. Eva Fleurent paced the women's team with a solid top ten finish while Owen Heseltine led the effort for the men's team.

Heseltine came across the finish line 21st overall in the men's 8K. The sophomore from Chesterville, ME posted a time of 31:49.8, his fastest run of the season. Zachary Peirce followed behind him with a 34:41.9, placing the Foxcroft Academy product in 30th position in the field of NCAA DIII runners. Robert Spears (40:57.9), Hugo Lopes (44:57.0), Carlos Fra-Naro (45:54.1), and Henry Avery (47:27.4) rounded out the Mustangs scoring, pushing the team to a 6th-place finish overall with a total time of 3:18:20.

On the women's side, first-year standout Fleurent was impressive, finishing 8th overall in the 6K with a time of 27:22.8. The Biddeford, ME native held her own against top runners from the UMaine-Farmington, Husson, Maine Maritime, and UMaine-Presque Isle. Hailey Bowley, also in her first year, crossed the line in 39:28.8, showing resilience and determination on the challenging course.

"Our athletes continue to show tremendous progress each week," said head coach Kevin Mitchell. "We're competing against some of the best collegiate runners in New England, and our team is stepping up to the challenge. I'm incredibly proud of their work ethic, their teamwork, and the positive momentum we're building as we head into the championship stretch of the season."

The Mustangs return to action on Saturday, October 18th at the Thomas College Invitational in Waterville, ME.
