Albany, NY – CMCC Women's Soccer picked up its first point of conference play this season, earning a draw on the road against the Albany College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences Panthers on Saturday in New York.
The history between these two teams has been one of closely contested matches that can swing in either direction, and this one turned out to be no different. Missing five players due to sickness class obligations, Central Maine adjusted its lineup and continued to work on generating offense in their new 4-3-3 formation. Head coach Rob Rodriguez tinkered with new looks including using freshman goalkeeper Devyn Eliasen as a forward.
In the first half, forward Jaelyn Poitras showcased her speed, creating an excellent breakaway opportunity only to see her shot head straight into ACPHS goalkeeper Kiah Klauss' hands. At the other end of the field, The Panthers scrambled for a loose ball in front of the Mustangs net but also came up empty. Jordan Blanton was given her first career start in goal for CMCC, and responded by making three saves in the first half, keeping things scoreless at the break.
The second half saw more of the same. Central Maine picked up the pace and carried a majority of the play but ACPHS took more shots. Neither team was able to break the deadlock with the Panthers finishing with seven shots on target to the Mustangs' five.
CMCC is back at home for another Yankee Small College Conference match-up against UMaine-Augusta on Tuesday, September 16th.
