Mustangs Shut Out by Vermont, 5-0

Burlington, VT – CMCC Women's Hockey finished off their weekend road trip, falling 5-0 at the University of Vermont. The IWCHL Presidential Division and ACHA D2 squad capitalized on a shorthanded and tired Mustangs team in their early-morning matchup.

Central Maine only had eight healthy skaters to dress for the 9:45 am puck drop, following their tough battle with Norwich University on Saturday night. Head coach Drew Lupardo's squad still gave a strong effort.

Captain Lauren Hanlon played the entire 60 minutes on the blue line without making a line change while defensive partner and alternate captain Fiona Landry logged 59 minutes of ice time. That allowed the team to run two forward lines.

Meanwhile, an experienced Catamounts squad had 19 skaters at their disposal. UVM tested CMCC goalie Jaelyn Poitras early and often. The freshman from Windham, ME faced 50 shots, making an impressive 45 saves to limit the damage. She held Vermont to one goal in the first period before they tallied three times in the second to put the game away. Laura South picked up the shutout in net for the Catamounts.

The Mustangs will wait for the second semester to get their next game in, with a return to IWCHL Adirondack North division play. They will face crosstown rival Bates twice, host UMaine, visit UNE, and await a rescheduled date to host the Colby Mules in 2026.
