Mountain Valley's Russell joining Lady Mustangs for spring semester

Auburn, ME - Ashley Russell, a 5'9" guard, and 2017 graduate of Mountain Valley High School, has enrolled at CM for the spring semester and is immediately eligible to start competing for the women's basketball team.  While at Mountain Valley, Russell was a 3 time Mountain Valley Conference All-Star, including a 1st team selection as a senior.  Additionally, she was named to the 2017 Sun Journal All-Region 2nd Team.

Head Women's Basketball Coach, Andrew Morong, on adding Russell, "Well, to be quite honest, I thought we were going to get her at the beginning of the school year, I am just glad it worked out.  Ashley has an awesmome skill set and is extremely unselfish.  She will fit in smoothly, and I think the experience of playing with a few of the girls in AAU will help as well.  Ashley adds depth at an area in which we really need it, but also adds more size and length on the perimeter.  She has a great understanding for the game and will make everyone else around her better.  Playing at Mountain Valley for Coach Casey will also help with her transition.  He is a great coach who stresses a lot of the same stuff we do here at CM."

Russell on her new opportunity, "I am very excited to continue my basketball career, especially for a program like CM.  I am ready for this next challenge and look forward to working hard and making others around me better.  I think the style of play suits me well, I'm excited to get out there and compete."

Mountain Valley Girls Basketball Coach, Ryan Casey, on Russell, "Ashley was arguably one of the top guards in the MVC as well as Class B south last season. Her experience playing an up-tempo style of basketball will undoubtedly help her transition towards the college game and CM. She is a selfless teammate with a win first attitude, those intangible qualities will serve her well at the next level."

Russell joins a Lady Mustangs team ranked #1 in the USCAA DII National Coaches Poll with an overall record of 14-1 and a YSCC record of 10-0.
