Auburn, ME - Head Men's Ice Hockey Coach, Matt Buotte, is excited to announce the commitment of forward Carl Bear for the 2018-2019 season.
Bear, a Gorham, Maine native, comes to Central Maine from Massachusetts, playing the 2017-2018 season for the South Shore Kings premier team where he amassed five points in 25 games. Prior to that, Bear competed for the New England Wolves U19 team in Laconia, New Hampshire where he was named player of the week twice, as well as player of the month once.
"I'm ecstatic Carl is choosing Central Maine," said Coach Buotte. "He's an explosive scorer and an even better play-maker...he has great size but it's matched with his speed. He brings a lot of tools offensively and is a character guy as well. He's a great fit for our what we're trying to do here."
Bear graduated locally as a Gorham High School product. While in high school he captained his team to two consecutive state championship games and was in the top 10 in scoring. Bear is excited to continue is hockey career while staying close to home. Bear will be studying general studies when he reports in the fall.
"I love the Auburn area for hockey," Bear remarked. "I love that I can go to school locally and continue to play hockey in one of the best areas in Maine to do so."
Bear, who is listed at 6'2", feels he can make an immediate impact at the college level.
"I can use my speed and scoring touch to help us win some games," he continued. "I want to bring a positive attitude on and off the ice. I want to set the bar high in practice and push my teammates to work hard."
It's the combination of ability and attitude that has Coach Buotte excited at Bear's commitment.
"I've known Carl for a very long time and I'm overjoyed he's going to be a Mustang," said Buotte. "I've had to coach him against him for years. He's a difficult forward to stop and I'm thrilled he's on our side. He's going to make a great addition to our line-up and dressing room."
