So. Portland, ME – In front of a loud capacity crowd, CM pulled away late from rival SMCC to win 96-80 on the road in South Portland. A large throng of the CM faithful made the trek to South Portland and were certainly a factor in the contest. The Mustangs enjoy solid road support each game!
The game began in a back and forth manner with CM managing to keep and hold a small lead most of the first half and headed into the locker room up 41-37.
Sparks begin to fly in the second half. As the game progressed and physical play took the game over, both teams got caught up in the frenzy. At the 10 minute mark in the half, and after two players were ejected from the game, CM went on a 8-0 run to take a double digit lead down the stretch run.
CM shot an impressive 53% from the field (36-69) and a season best 18-31 from three-point land, which landed them at a 58% clip. The Mustangs also won the rebounding war 41-37.
Corey David proved tonight why he is the best point guard in the conference leading the Mustang attack. Corey hit for 13 points in a 5-7 shooting night, pulled down 4 rebounds and added 4 assists. However, his major contribution was guiding the attack, keeping the Mustangs focused and controlling the game tempo.
Akeem Laurie played his best game of the semester shooting 5-10, added 4 assists, and registered 17 points.
Big man Josh Chery dominated the glass scoring 12 points and ripped down 10 rebounds.
Elijah Barbour and Charles Cedre showed why they are the best 6th and 7th man combination in the league coming off the bench scoring (Barbour) 17 points and (Cedre) 16 points. Both added length to the floor stretching the limits with 3-point bombs.
The Mustangs finish the half with an impressive 11-2 record.
